LPSGC Tournament Information
Revised 2024-01-11
1 General
1.1 Event Management —
We use
Golf Genius Tournament Manager Club
software ("TM") for setting up and scoring our tournaments.
This includes: pre-tournament preparation of pairings, flights, email
notifications and scorecards; then on tournament day: score entry and
compilation of results.
About a week before each event a unique Event Portal will be
created within TM and it will be linked from the current tournament
schedule page on the club website.
Each tournament will have an Event Manager
(the club's TM user) who you can identify (name and email address) by
clicking on the orange Help tab located on the right-hand-side of the
Event Portal webpage.
1.2 Communications —
Club communications are via email, so members will need to provide us
with a valid email address.
In order to prevent your Internet Service Provider from blocking bulk
email messages sent from our tournament manager, club email and roster
management software, please add these senders to your email contacts list
or safe-senders list:
noreply@golfgenius.com
laspositasseniors@gmail.com
no-reply@memberplanet.com
1.3 Local Handicaps —
Club tournament play uses Local Handicaps, derived solely from each player's
club tournament scores.
1.4 Posting of Tournament Scores —
The LPSGC Handicap Committee adjusts and posts club tournament
scores to both the USGA/GHIN and LPSGC handicap systems after each postable
round.
1.5 Mixed-Tee Competitions —
Most of our net events are mixed-tee competitions, where players play
from the Red or White tees but compete in the same flight.
Our use of Local Handicaps ensures these competitions are
equitable—the
average net scores on each set of tees are virtually
identical.
1.6 Default Tees —
Members may change their default tees near the end of the season (after
the Club Championship in September).
New members may try different tee sets but must decide on their
default tees within their first five postable club events.
In addition, tee changes can be made at any time to accommodate
injuries, illness, etc.
Contact the TM Event Manager to make tee changes.
2 Tournament Entry
2.1 Enter by Email —
Entry is by email only to the Tournament Committee at:
LPSGC TC
<laspositasseniors+tournaments@gmail.com>.
Entries must be received no sooner than the day of the previous
tournament and no later than the entry deadline.
Specify the event date in the subject line and include the relevant
options listed below (in Section 2.2) in the body of the email.
When submitting an entry email with players in addition to yourself,
please include them in the CC field.
The entry fee for all tournaments is $10 (including the two-round Club
Championship) and is paid directly to the Las Positas
Pro Shop by each player upon check-in on tournament day.
Most tournaments are mixed-tee competitions where you play from
your default tees so there is no need to specify tees in your
entry email.
Tee restrictions apply for certain events (e.g., Alternate Shot
format, Shamble format) where you play from the tees specified by the
Committee.
The one exception is our
Club Championship, where you play
from your default tees except if your default tees
are Red and you want to compete for the non-handicapped gross prize,
you must declare White tees in your entry email.
2.2 Options
2.2.1 Grouping —
You may enter individually or in groups of 2, 3 or 4 for most
events.
The Tournament Committee will add players as necessary to fill out a
foursome.
When you send in an entry email which includes other players,
please copy those players in the entry email so everyone concerned
is aware.
Grouping requests cannot always be honored; we must fill out
groups with four players whenever possible.
2.2.2 Teaming —
You may choose your own partner for most team events or enter
individually and be teamed-up by the Tournament Committee. If you
are entering four players for a 2-man team event, make clear who
the partners are for each team.
2.2.3 Tee-Time —
Specify your tee-time preference as "early", "middle" or "late".
The Tournament Committee will honor your preference, when possible,
but with consideration of your
pace-of-play history.
2.3 Entry Deadline —
Entries to the TC are due by Tuesday-noon, 8 days prior to
tournament day.
2.4 Field Limits —
The number of entries is sent to the Las Positas GC just after the
Tuesday-noon deadline and determines the number of tee-times the Course
will reserve for us.
2.5 Late Entries —
Late entries (received after the Tuesday-noon deadline) will be placed
in wait-list to be used to fill vacancies and late withdrawals from the
field.
2.6 Entry Confirmation —
On Thursday, 6 days before the tournament, the list of entrants will be
posted to the
Event Portal by the Event Manager, and a link to the
portal will be created on the current tournament schedule page.
All those who entered or were wait-listed should check the list
of entrants and report any changes needed to the Event Manager.
If you need to withdraw, notify the Event Manager before the
pairings are released so that vacancies can be filled from the
wait-list.
2.7 Pairings —
The tee sheet (pairings with tee-times) will be available on the Event
Portal and linked from the club website on Sunday evening, 3 days
prior to the event.
2.8 Terms of the Competition —
An email message is sent to all players when the pairings are released.
Included in the body of the email are the Terms of the
Competition, which all players must follow.
2.9 Late Withdrawals —
If you need to withdraw after the pairings have been posted:
(1) notify the Las Positas Golf Course (925-455-7820) and
(2) notify the tournament Event Manager (via email) to avoid being
cited as a "no-show" in the leaderboard.
Members who repeatedly no-show may be suspended from entering
future events at the discretion of the Committee.
2.10 NCGA Qualifiers —
We do not conduct local qualifiers to advance to NCGA tournaments.
However, if you are interested in competing in NCGA tournaments,
contact the Tournament Chairman.
You must have participated in at least 5 postable club rounds
in the previous 12 months to be eligible to represent the club
in NCGA tournaments.
3 Tournament Day
3.1 Check-In —
Players must check in at the Las Positas Pro Shop at least
30 minutes prior to their tee-time.
Tournament scorecards will be available at the counter.
3.2 Entry Fee —
Pay your tournament entry fee directly to the Course upon
check-in.
3.3 Rules —
USGA® Rules of Golf,
Las Positas Golf Course Local Rules and
Club Local Rules govern play in our
tournaments.
If "Wet Conditions" are declared, in the general area
players may only lift, clean and replace their ball
on-the-spot as defined in our Local Rules.
3.4 Playing Handicaps —
Playing Handicaps will be printed on the scorecards and follow the
recommendations in the
USGA® Rules of Handicapping.
Playing Handicaps are derived from Course Handicaps with the
application of handicap allowance factors such as 85% for a Two-Man
Better Ball format.
You can determine your Playing Handicap and see the handicap
allowance factor for each event in the
table
available on the club's handicap website.
3.5 Protect the Field —
All players are expected to protect the field by challenging fellow
competitors, partners or even players in another group regarding rules
infractions; see Rule 20.1c(2). Challenges must be addressed when
violations are observed or questions arise.
Penalties for improper drops, for example, can be avoided if addressed
before a subsequent stroke is made.
Report disagreements regarding rules issues to the Committee.
3.6 Protect the Course —
Rake bunkers after use.
Keep Course rental carts away from wet areas, tees and greens
(especially in front of greens).
Call the Pro Shop (925-455-7820) to report misbehavior and request a
Marshal be dispatched to talk to offenders.
3.7 Rulings —
The Referee for our tournaments is the Las Positas
Head Pro or his designate.
Proceed under Rule 20.1c(3) if it is not practical to seek a
ruling while on the Course.
3.8 Pace-of-Play —
Players must strive to keep up with the group ahead and complete
their round in a timely fashion.
Please ask for help if you have trouble keeping up.
Note: Time Par for the Las Positas Golf Course is
4:12.
3.9 Recording Timing Data —
Markers must record the Start, Middle and Finish
times for their group in the space allocated on their tournament
scorecard in all events.
This includes shotgun starts, reversed-nine starts, etc.
The Start time is when the first tee shot is struck in your group.
Middle and Finish times are measured when your group leaves the
green of your mid-round and final holes.
A group that fails to record a time (or records a fictitious
time) will receive a penalty time determined by the Committee.
Timing data is collected and analyzed to identify slow players and this
information is used by the Tournament Committee during the pairings
process.
3.10 Unfinished Holes —
In some events, such as Better Ball and Stableford formats, you may
pick-up before finishing a hole without penalty. You may also
pick-up in Individual Stroke events to maintain pace-of-play if you
are having a bad round and are "out of it". Whenever a hole is not
completed instruct your Marker, for handicap purposes, to record an
"X" followed by your
most likely score.
If your most likely score is clearly greater than your maximum score(s)
for handicap purposes (i.e., net double-bogey), a simple "X" will
suffice, but remember, your hole scores will be adjusted by two
different Course Handicaps (USGA & LPSGC), so net double-bogey
values can differ.
Maximum score adjustments for handicap purposes will be made
by the Handicap Committee after your scorecard has been submitted.
3.11 Holes Not Played —
If you are not able to play one or more holes due to time
constraints, injury, etc., instruct your Marker to record a
"-" (dash) for those holes, indicating "hole not played".
3.12 Inclement Weather —
If the Course is deemed playable but conditions are such that many
players withdraw at the last minute (due to chance of rain,
cart-path-only restriction, too muddy, etc.), we will adjust the
flights, the purse and possibly the format to accomodate those that
do play.
3.13 Cancellations —
If an event is canceled by the Committee, those who were entered in
the canceled tournament and want to play in the following event
must submit another entry email—no "carry-overs".
4 Scoring and Results
4.1 Scoring Issues —
Report scoring issues at the scoring table, then, if necessary,
settle them with the Referee before submitting your scorecard.
4.2 Scorecards —
Players should verify their hole-by-hole scores, ensure their Marker
has signed the scorecard and then attest it before promptly
submitting it at the scoring table.
4.3 Scorecard Acceptance —
Remain in the scoring table area until your score has been processed
in case any legibility issues arise.
4.4 Score Review —
When scores are entered into TM, each player will receive an automated
email asking him to review his hole-by-hole scores and report score
entry errors to the Event Manager for correction.
4.5 Tie Breaking —
Except for the Club Championship, tie scores will be broken
using standard
(usually "USGA then Last to First").
4.6 Posting of Adjusted Scores —
The Handicap Committee will post adjusted scores from postable events
to the GHIN system and the LPSGC scoring record shortly after the
tournament. Review your hole-by-hole scores in the
detailed scoring record
and report any hole score errors to the Event
Manager.
4.7 Posting of Results —
Results will be posted on the Event Portal following the event.
Report any Committee errors to the Event Manager.
4.8 Close Out —
All results are final 24 hours after tournament results are
posted.
4.9 Prizes —
Prizes consist of Pro Shop credits, which may be redeemed for
merchandise, cart fees, range balls or donated to the
Las Positas Junior Golf program.
Flight prizes are awarded to approximately 40% of the field.
5 Club Championship
5.1 Two-Round Tournament —
The Club Championship consists of two rounds over consecutive
weeks.
5.2 Eligibility Requirements —
Players must have posted at least 3 rounds in club tournaments
since the previous Club Championship in order to compete for flight
prizes and 5 rounds to be eligible for the overall
Low Net or Low Gross prize (see club
Bylaws,
Section III-8).
5.3 Low Gross Tee Restriction —
The White tees must be played to compete for overall Low Gross.
5.4 Low Net Tee Restriction —
The Red tees may be played if your
handicap DNA is all Red, otherwise you may only compete
for overall Low Net from the White tees.
5.5 Flight Prize Tee Restriction —
You may compete for a flight prize from the Red tees if the
majority of your handicap DNA is Red (e.g.,
3 of 4), otherwise you must play from the White tees.
5.6 Lap Money —
Lap money is awarded to the lowest 2nd round net score in each flight
which did not otherwise place.
5.7 Gross & Net Winner Restrictions —
Winners of the overall Low Gross and Low Net prizes ($100) are not
eligible for flight prizes.
5.8 Decision of Ties —
Ties for overall Low Gross and Low Net will be
settled by a three-hole aggregate score, followed by sudden-death, if
necessary.
Ties in flighted divisions will be retained, with prize money equally
distributed amongst the places involved, except for last place and Lap
money where ties will be broken using the "USGA then Last to First"
method.
